For my brother, Alex, on your wedding day.

Random thoughts for you and your bride on this day and every day of your marriage: 

Have fun. Laugh a lot. Don’t sweat the small things.

Enjoy life together. Take vacations. Sleep in.

Go for long walks. Hold hands.

Bring her flowers often.

Always kiss goodnight. (cliche, I know, but so important!)

Be patient. Ask questions. Understand that you don’t understand each other.

Learn to have conflicts. Learn to resolve them.

Hug each other when you feel like it. Hug when you don’t feel like it.

Give each other space. Hang out with your own friends.

Make friends with other couples. Learn from those who’ve gone before you.

Respect one another.

Sometimes it’s more important to make peace than win an argument.

Hold your babies as long as you can. Cherish every kiss on their sweet faces, every first smile, every time their chubby fingers wrap around yours.

Don’t wish away the hard days. They’re a piece of the puzzle of your lives.

Go for your dreams. Support each other in your respective dreams.

Challenge each other.

Speak the truth. But always speak it in love.

Be humble.

Choose to love each other every day.

Always, always put Jesus first.

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
